Fridays @ Stumptown

Portland-area high school students can participate in Fridays @ Stumptown, part of Stumptown Stages' Education & Outreach program. Fridays @ Stumptown provides students with an opportunity to experience firsthand what goes into a musical theatre production. Working with cast and crew, students learn songs and choreography from the current show and stay after for a pizza party and the performance. It is a great introduction to musical theatre and a fun experience for the students! Read below for more details on past Fridays @ Stumptown workshops.

Stumptown Stages is proud to offer quality musical theatre experiences to Portland's youth. For more information about the Fridays @ Stumptown workshop or to become a sponsor of our program, please contact us at kmouser@stumptownstages.org

Fridays @ Stumptown

Local Portland-Area High School Students Learn "Dance of the Robes" from Stumptown Stages' Production of Aida at the First Fridays @ Stumptown Worshop

Students from Gresham High School, Cleveland High School and La Salle High School joined us for our first Fridays @ Stumptown workshop. Students came from a range of backgrounds and experience. Each student brought a passion for musical theatre with them that ignited our stage for two hours on Friday afternoon as they worked with our award-winning music director (Jon Quesenberry) and choreographer (Valarie Grudier-Edwards). We were impressed with their attention to detail, the thoughtfulness of their questions, and their willingness to throw themselves into their work onstage, even after a long week at school.

In learning the song "Dance of the Robes," students found a connection to Aida's musical theme and personal story, as told through her people's song. It was a powerful moment for us all to see that song performed by professional actors onstage later that evening, and to understand firsthand the work and passion our actors need to fulfill the song's emotional demands.
