Stumptown Stages Young Artist Program
Due to the "Stay Home, Save Lives" Order issued by Governor Brown in response to the COVID-19 concerns, Stumptown Stages’ Young Artist Program will be offering its summer workshop for (up to 50) students aged 8-18 online.
The online program (hosted through the online application Zoom) will be taught by NYC artists: director James Charles and choreographer Christopher George Patterson. Hour long workshops will meet twice weekly and will be separated in age groups (8-9), (10-12), (12-14), and (15-18).
The online program will be patterned after the Villagers Theatre Mini Musicals and Paper-Mill Conservatory. Young artists will explore the many facets of theatre - acting, music, dance and theatre production. Artists will study proper stage etiquette, technique and develop a basic understanding of the theatre as a creative collaboration both on stage and off. The 4-week program is designed to enhance performance skills, while instilling the technique, discipline and professionalism.
Artists will be asked to learn songs and dance combinations from Stumptown Stages 2020-21 Musical Season - including numbers from "Pippin," and "Annie." These pieces will be showcased (via Zoom online platform).
Christopher George Patterson (Choreographer) B-WAY: Charles Bush & Julie Halston: Back On B-way; OFF B-WAY: LaChiusia’s Wild Party; NTL TOURS: My One and Only & Crazy For You. He was Dance Asst. for the B-way company of The Lion King.
James Charles (Director) recently completed a 15 yr AD position at a theater in upstate NY. Credits: National Tour: Les Miserables, Off-Broadway: The Fantasticks.
