In his 100th anniversary year, we celebrate the music of Leonard Bernstein with perhaps his greatest work – the triumphant and controversial MASS. Leonard Bernstein’s MASS examines what happens when a community experiences a collective crisis of faith. MASS asks the question: What happens when our systems fail us, from our religious institutions to our leaders in government to our belief in ourselves? Scored for two choirs, children’s chorus, orchestra, rock band, blues band and an army of soloists, and embracing every conceivable musical genre, from pop to gospel to blues to classical, all coming together to create an experience that defies categorization.
Starring the acclaimed baritone Douglas Webster as the Celebrant, whose crisis of conscience is at the center of the piece, these will be unforgettable performances of a rarely-performed masterpiece.
